The Sea Wolf is an exciting adventure novel set in the Pacific Northwest. It tells the story of a young man named Humphrey Van Weyden, who is held hostage on board a ship by a tyrannical captain. After being captured in San Francisco and brought to the fearsome Captain Bligh, it's up to Humphrey to stop his evil plan: he intends to destroy all evidence of his drunken crimes.
The novel begins with Humphrey disembarking from the 'Ghost', a modest yacht which was once owned by an old sea captain. He hopes to make enough money as a freelance reporter that he can marry his sweetheart D'Arcy, but quickly finds himself homeless after she breaks their engagement for another man. The only option available is to take passage with the mysterious father and son, Wolf Larsen and Maud Brewster. The two are heading for seal-hunting grounds off the coast of Alaska in a dilapidated boat called the 'Ghost'.
The plot thickens when some of the crew begin to mutiny against Captain Larsen's cruelty. One by one, members of the weary group are picked off by wolves or killed in drunken rages. Finally, Humphrey is left isolated from all other humans on board and becomes reliant solely on himself for survival.
